Chebeague
Transportation Company operates a 40-foot flat barge for
moving vehicles from mid-April through mid-November. The
barge runs between Cousins Island and Chebeague Island.
Operation of this barge is subject to various legal
restrictions, as well as the natural restrictions provided
by time and tide. The barge usually runs on Tuesdays and
Thursdays and never on Sundays or holidays.
Reservations are
required by calling our office (207) 846-3700,
8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday) or by e-mail to barge@chebeague.net.
When you call, we will need the following information: the
make, model, color and license plate number of the vehicle
to be barged, plus the name, address, and phone/cell number
of the person responsible. We suggest that you make your
barge reservation as far in advance as possible.
You will be asked to
have your vehicle at the parking lot at Cousins Island at a
particular time. Please endeavor to be on time--not too
early, overcrowding the parking lot, nor too late, missing
the barge. Due to weather and loading considerations, you
may not be transported immediately. Vehicles to be barged
are not allowed at the Cousins Island parking lot before
7 AM and must be removed from the Cousins Island parking lot
before 5 PM on the day of barging. NO OVERNIGHT parking is
permitted before or after the day the vehicle is barged.
The barge does not take
passengers. Therefore, you will be asked to leave the keys
in the car or with the parking attendant (do not set any
alarms or lock doors). Please do not leave pets, perishable
food, flowers, or plants in your vehicle. We cannot be
responsible for them. It's a short downhill walk from the
parking lot to the passenger ferry landing to take the ferry
to Chebeague.
Unless prior
arrangements are made with the business office
(207-846-5227), payment is to be made in advance of the
barge date by mailing a check to CTC, P.O. Box 27, Chebeague
Island, Maine 04017. Please note the barge date on the memo
line of the check.
Every effort will be
made to accommodate your needs, but many decisions cannot be
made until the time of the barge trip. All loading and
barging decisions are at the discretion of the barge
captain.
You will be notified if
weather presents transportation problems. Please understand
that we would rather cancel a trip than endanger our
customers' vehicles and cargo, not to mention the lives of
our crew. |
